Sunday Morning Dance Weekly

Every SUNDAY Join us for MORNING DANCE NOW AT 10:30 am

facilitated by Myrth Killingsworth and Kevin Clayton with guest DJs and teachers

We dance our way home

Into the mountains of our bones

The snowmelt running rios of our blood

The southwest wind of our breath

The high desert sun of our heat

And the earth-beat of our feet

“Movement is my medicine, my meditation, my metaphor and my method, a living language we can rely upon to tell us the truth about who we are, who we are with, and where we are going.” -Gabrielle Roth

“Shake ‘til you feel better.” -James Brown

A NOTE FROM MYRTH: I moved to Taos fourteen years ago, because a wild-haired, wild-eyed woman named Visudha de Los Santos grabbed me by the elbow and told me I belonged at Sunday morning dance. I couldn’t believe I could belong anywhere, but what I found on the dance floor was not just belonging in my own body but belonging in an incredible community of movers and shakers. This dance is about re-belonging ourselves in our own bodies, in this time and place, and moving and being moved together.

A NOTE FROM KEVIN: Sunday morning dance is a space to reconnect in our own bodies. To move with the many layers of being human. To let go, shake it out, fall apart and find ourselves whole still. To move together in divine inspiration. And to find our way into the mystery.

10:00am -12:00pm every Sunday morning

Substance-free, family-friendly, all bodies welcome

STRUCTURE: Arrival and warmup, verbally guided movement practice/play, opening circle and collective agreements, just dance ~1hr, closing circle

NEW CLASS - Handstands & sound bath savasana w/ Ruby Phoenix

Saturdays, 7:30am - 9am, beginning October 5th

Handstand Drills Vinyasa

Is a 90 minute practice of breath integration with movement to stretch and tone, while practicing handstand drills to warm up wrists, shoulders, core and get those feet confidently and safely up the wall and explore the energy boosting benefits of being upside down. Integration completed with a Sound Bath Savasana.

Handstands offer a variety of physical, mental, and emotional benefits:

1. **Full-Body Strength**: Handstands engage your entire body, particularly the shoulders, arms, core, and back muscles. This helps build significant upper body and core strength over time.

2. **Improved Balance and Stability**: Practicing handstands enhances your proprioception (body awareness) and balance, which translates to better overall stability in everyday movements.

3. **Increased Core Strength**: Maintaining a stable handstand requires engaging your deep core muscles, improving core strength and stability, which benefits posture and other physical activities.

4. **Enhanced Focus and Mental Clarity**: Handstands require concentration, mindfulness, and mental focus. This can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and improve mental clarity as you stay present in the moment.

5. **Boosted Circulation**: Being upside down increases blood flow to the brain, which can improve mental alertness, promote circulation, and possibly benefit lymphatic drainage.

6. **Improved Flexibility**: The process of working towards a handstand often requires increasing shoulder and hamstring flexibility, benefiting your overall mobility.

7. **Confidence and Overcoming Fear**: Mastering a handstand can boost your self-confidence as it involves overcoming the fear of falling or being inverted, empowering you in both your practice and everyday life.

8. **Enhanced Body Awareness**: Practicing handstands improves your connection to your body, helping you move with more precision and control, not just during inversions but in many other physical activities.

9. **Fun and Playfulness**: Handstands bring a sense of play and exploration to your practice, making your workouts more enjoyable and motivating.

Incorporating handstands into your routine helps develop physical strength, mental focus, and overall body control.

About Ruby Phoenix:

With a love for movement & dance that heals, since she was a teen, she continued to pursue her yoga dream managing and teaching at yoga studios in her twenties from the US to Hong Kong, Philippines & Vietnam. She did her first 500 hr yoga certification in Toronto, Canada with Modo Yoga International and 500 hr with Ana Forrest while teaching at Pure Yoga in Hong Kong and 200 hr in Albuquerque with Hot Yoga Downtown. She started training in Handstand intensive workshops and became so passionate about the benefits that she hired a private coach from Norway, Ulrik, and is excited to share the knowledge and drills to help anyone breathe upside down.  She became certified in 2 levels of Sound Bath healing and loves to integrate all she’s learned when she teaches students, meeting them where they’re at with her open heart and commitment to her practice. She believes the profundity is in the practice and loves to help students breathe into their strengths and dreams again too.

Mostly, personally, yoga has helped her heal and overcome many physical injuries… broken wrist, forearm, shoulder, neck & jaw and now foot! She has a passion for sharing with others the peace it brings her which surpasses all understanding.
