Shadow Contact Improv

Thursday, April 3 | 6 pm - 9 pm ~ Damian Lauthold ~ $25 at the door or free with the purchase of a SomaAwakening Retreat Ticket

Shadow Contact is a slow, ground-based group practice that fosters deep embodiment and a nourished state of being. By removing the sense of sight, getting away from the vertical, and quieting the overactive mind, you'll be free to explore the simplicity of rest and activity, breath and movement, pressure and presence.

Without the distractions of language, personality, relationship, or sexuality you can rediscover parts of yourself rooted in curiosity, sensation, and ease.

This practice invites you to feel more whole, alive, and integrated. Drawn from the worlds of Authentic Movement, Contact Improvisation, and Body Mind Centering, we are here to support you and guide you on this unique SomAwakeing journey.

KAZIMI - Live Music Concert

Monday, March 17 | 6 pm - 7 pm ~ KAZIMI ~ sliding scale $15-$35

Join artist KAZIMI -- a Texas-born, NY-based songstress for a night of live music on the heels of her performance at South by Southwest festival she will be passing through Taos.

Description: Where do you find softness? Why is it never in your body? Could it be? Overworked and under-resourced, KAZIMI collapsed beneath the weight of her first album’s release. The disintegration was harsh but she was left with something simple and pure. This spring, KAZIMI sets out on a tour to explore resilience and regeneration. What would it look like to spend every show co-creating the softest cocoon imaginable? Could you let go and climb in? How juicy could it get?

Her alternative folk music is perfect for people who want to cry & feel sexy at the same time.

Bio:

For most of her life, KAZIMI played music alone and in secret. She crafted songs to work through life’s peaks and valleys, but they were never meant to be shared. Then came the tidal shift of 2020 and on the other side of isolation, the recording of her debut album, River Run. Raised in Texas but based in New York City, the singer/songwriter writes genre-bending music that is tender and cinematic. She dives deep into the personal to touch universal truths, alchemizing the grit of life into a sonic balm that is both soft and strong.

You can listen to her music on Spotify or Apple Music and find out more about her on Instagram

Hoop La La with Mariah Weekly on Tuesdays

Tuesdays in March 5:30pm - 6:30pm | $13 Drop In or Class Passes

-Class description-

In this series we will learn some of my favorite beginner to intermediate hula hoop tricks in a sequence that flows together. We will focus on "the flow state" and using it along with our movements to express, heal and come up with your own combinations of tricks! I will have extra hula hoops to borrow in class and ones for purchase to take home if you don't have one!

Mariah’s Bio:

Hey there! My name is Mariah. Lover of nature, music, dance, travel and all forms of artistic expression. After growing up my whole life outside of Philadelphia where my love for hula hooping started, I spent 3 glorious years traveling, working in other countries and developing my love for circus arts before ending up here in the magical land of Taos where I've been since 2020.

For the past 7 years I've been dedicated to attending flow/circus events all over the world, learning from the masters, teaching, performing and connecting with the community. Today I am a passionate flow artist with an extra special love for hula hoops and movement as medicine. I love all styles of hula hooping from circus flare like juggling, large shapes and multi hooping to a more technical style. I also enjoy dancing with staffs, fans and poi.

It is so magical to feel the way these props and movements can help you connect with your body, mind, emotions, energy, sacred geometry and space and time around you. Unlocking that flow state we have inside all of us is such a powerful medicine and teacher. I have found great healing through this expression and I hope to share it with as many people as possible!

Sunday Morning Dance Weekly

Every SUNDAY Join us for MORNING DANCE NOW AT 10:30 am

facilitated by Myrth Killingsworth and Kevin Clayton with guest DJs and teachers

We dance our way home

Into the mountains of our bones

The snowmelt running rios of our blood

The southwest wind of our breath

The high desert sun of our heat

And the earth-beat of our feet

“Movement is my medicine, my meditation, my metaphor and my method, a living language we can rely upon to tell us the truth about who we are, who we are with, and where we are going.” -Gabrielle Roth

“Shake ‘til you feel better.” -James Brown

A NOTE FROM MYRTH: I moved to Taos fourteen years ago, because a wild-haired, wild-eyed woman named Visudha de Los Santos grabbed me by the elbow and told me I belonged at Sunday morning dance. I couldn’t believe I could belong anywhere, but what I found on the dance floor was not just belonging in my own body but belonging in an incredible community of movers and shakers. This dance is about re-belonging ourselves in our own bodies, in this time and place, and moving and being moved together.

A NOTE FROM KEVIN: Sunday morning dance is a space to reconnect in our own bodies. To move with the many layers of being human. To let go, shake it out, fall apart and find ourselves whole still. To move together in divine inspiration. And to find our way into the mystery.

10:00am -12:00pm every Sunday morning

Substance-free, family-friendly, all bodies welcome

STRUCTURE: Arrival and warmup, verbally guided movement practice/play, opening circle and collective agreements, just dance ~1hr, closing circle

Kirtan w/ Infinite Compassion Orchestra

Friday, October 25, 6:00 - 7:30pm ~ $20 in advance/$25 at the door

Join Baja Arizona’s premier kirtan ensemble for an evening of music, mantra and meditation in the Bhakti Yoga tradition. For Tickets & more info visit: www.infinitecompassionorchestra.com

Kirtan is an ancient devotional practice that uses singing of mantras (japa). It is also known as Bhakti Yoga — the yoga of devotion, or the yoga of love. When ancient Sanskrit mantras are wrapped in luscious layers of music, the result is a treat for all the senses that can have a profound impact on your well-being. Kirtan is known to open the heart chakra unlike any other practice, allowing you to connect with your true nature, as well as others.

The Infinite Compassion Orchestra blends the traditions of East and West on instruments from India, Europe, North America, Africa, and beyond. At the heart of our music is mantra — the sacred syllables also known as “the many names of God.” Sing along and you’ll feel why this path is pure bliss.
