West African Drum Lessons with Chris Helvey

Saturday April 28th 3-5pm, $25 sliding scale

We will start at the beginning and learn two traditional rhythms. These drum classes are somewhat self-leveling in terms of student experience level. Beginners will get to learn the basics and more experienced players will learn the nuances of the rhythm. A few djembes will be available for rent.  First come first server. What we will learn:

  • Tradition West African Beats
  • Playing tips
  • Woman friendly (No egos here)
  • Fun and supportive
  • Beginners welcome
  • Recorded for practicing

Chris has been a drummer since the age of eight. Around twenty years ago, he was intrigued by the Djembe as an instrument and upon discovering the music it supported, came an "Aha!" about rhythm. What followed became a deep learning experience of West African rhythm, along with following the influences it has had on western music. He has traveled to Guinea, West Africa to learn from the source, and has studied with many masters both African and American. His teachers have been Mamady Keita (Conakry,) Famadou Konate' (Conakry,) Fadouba Oulare (Faranah,) Ryan Edwards (Boston,) Michael Taylor (Chicago,) Michael Markus (New York,) and Bruce Langhorn (Los Angeles,) among others.

Chris also plays guitar, congas, and anything that makes a sound. African music runs in his blood even while playing slack-key guitar. He often says that the influence of African music in his his own life and music style is like the egg in a cake. You can't separate them anymore.

New Moon women's Circle with Kelly Rae

Sunday April 15th, 6pm

Message from Kelly:

I would love for join me for the next women's moon circle. We will gather together to open our hearts and hold space for one another. The evening will start out with a crystal bowl sound healing to help us ground deeper into the earth, moving through to the Shamanic journey where the drum will stimulate the brain to help synthesize natural beta-endorphins, which facilitate you to move into what is known as the 'second attention', an altered state of awareness, or shamanic state of consciousness.  This state of awareness facilitates the Shamanic Journey.   The constant drumming will be used for the purpose of inducing a range of ecstatic trance states in order to connect with the spiritual dimension of reality.  I invite you to share your journey before we move on to setting our intentions with the energy of the new moon still high.  Closing our circle with sharing if you feel called.

Step out of your shadow and step into the circle of women that will help you see your beauty and divine light. We are all here for one another. To share, to open ourselves to our deepest self, and to reflect and to listen to one another as we embark on this beautiful journey.

If you have never done a shamanic journey I will discuss with you before we start on what exactly that is.

Please bring a journal.

Dress in whatever you feel the most comfortable. Please limit your use of perfumes or sprays to respect any allergies that some may be experiencing.

Blessings to you dear sisters. Hope to see you all soon.

KYMAT: Water-Sound-Picture Cymatics Installation & Live Show w/ Crystal Bowls

Thursday March 29th, 8:15pm, Free Event - Donations Appreciated

Drop Sound Enlightenment ~ Relax Your Monkey Mind ~ Sonic Water

Join us on this meditative visual sound journey. KYMAT is a Cymatics Installation and live Show. Cymatics is the process of visualizing sound Frequencies and vibrations. In the beginning there was sound. The reason cymatics exerts such a strong fascination is that we are not conditioned to "see sound". Cymatics is like a magic tool that unveils the true substance of things audible, but conventionally invisible. With it one can recreate the archetypes of different forms of nature. KYMAT, by Sven Meyer, presents new findings from the Hamburg laboratory and invites the audience as Mad Professor to participate in an experiment. The experimental setup is simple: a camera is filming a container filled with a little water bottle cap. With meticulous and rich sounds Dr. Meyer adds sound to this water which makes vibrate. The water acts as a three-dimensional sculpture that translates the sound into images. Sound is visible and tangible.  Organic patterns, cell divisions, mandalas, ice crystals, sacred geometry, the Flower of Life.  In a never-ending interplay of chaos and order, the symbols and basic shapes in our world architecture.

Solo Sacred Sexuality Workshop w/ Rachel Rae Halder

Saturday February 24th, 1pm-4pm, $25-$45 Sliding Scale

All Genders & sexual orientations welcome!

February is the month of love. But without the focus of love for one’s self, how do we expect to be exceptional lovers towards others?

Join us for a day of solo sacred sexuality play, where you’ll learn tools, practices and transmissions for how to open up to the depths of your sacred sexual powers. Whether you’re in a relationship, have lots of lovers or have been on a celibate path for years and intend to remain celibate, this workshop offers meaningful methods to tap into your root and sacral chakras, integrating them into your whole body-mind system so you can live life in an embodied, open, spiritually in-touch and connected way.

The main premise of Tantra is that EVERYTHING has consciousness within it. You can’t separate an elusive world with a spirituality somewhere else -- there is consciousness everywhere, within everything, and that reality can be tapped into from within.

Tantra is built around practices that help support this truth within you, making this real. This workshop will offer both classical and neo-tantric practices, mixed with Taoism, neuroscience and sacred sexuality practices from many traditions.

Balance in all things - this is the guiding principle of the esctastic dance party. Do you love to dance but maybe not so into the bar scene? What's a fun loving, yet responsible adult to do?

We believe we've got the answer - the ecstatic dance party! Since the idea behind ecstatic dance is more of a movement meditation and fun way to get exercise, and the idea of a party is to have as much fun as possible at any cost, why not strike a balance between these extremes? In other words, let's party and have as much fun as possible, but let's not cause ourselves or anyone else any trouble!

We're aiming for the most fun, highest vibe event possible. We've got one hard and fast rule - NO ALCOHOL. That's right, please leave your beer, wine, whisky or whatever you like to drink at home, come enjoy a tasty nourishing tonic & dance the night away.

New Moon Women's Ceremony

Tuesday January 16th, 8:15-10pm, Suggested donation $15, Sliding scale-$0-$20

The new moon is a time of reflection.. Of going inward and looking deep within at what it is you would like to create.  Truly feeling into it as if it is already happening.  It is an opportunity to sit with feelings of uncertainty, rather than rushing from one thing to the next.  I would love for you to join me and dive into this New Year by consciously creating your reality...for yourself..for all women...for the greater good of ALL.

Lets come together in sacred circle to support one another as we dive deep into our subconscious minds.

We will begin the evening with a guided chakra sound meditation, leading into a Shamanic Journey, and followed by intention setting/bath salt making. There will be sharing of your journey and intentions, if you feel compelled too, as we create our bath salts to immerse ourselves in on the next Full Moon. This is a safe place for the divine feminine to come and share with one another.  To be truly held and seen.  All that we share will remain in this sacred container.

I have posted a link at the bottom if you would like to have some insight on it before you come.

Please bring a yoga mat or blanket, a journal, and your favorite essential oil.

Dress in whatever you feel the most comfortable.  Please limit your use of perfumes or sprays to respect any allergies that some may be experiencing.

Blessings to you dear sisters.  Hope to see you all soon.

Yours Truly,  Kelly Rae
